Welcome to Wakomata Shores Resort

What's New
All of the cottage exteriors are being painted this summer. The dull whites and fading browns will be replaced with a uniform gray with white trim. Both of the duplex cottages have been completed so far along with the fish cleaning shack and the sauna building.

In order to lower our water consumption all of the toilets in the cottages have been replaced with low flow bowls. These are a multi flush system, one way full flush (6L) the other half flush (4L).

One other new item is our sign at the entrance and near the office has been replaced with our new logo.

Renovations
As the seasons change so do things here at Wakomata Shores with still more renovations underway. For those of you familiar with the sauna house it has been cleaned up with a new shower and fresh cedar wall boards. The hot tub and deck has been torn down and replaced with a new brick patio and a Bullfrog electric spa.

As for upgrades to the cabins the Maples, Oaks, Pines and Firs are getting an interior facelift. New pine walls have replaced the dark paneling to brighten and freshen up these 4 cozy cottages. The remaining cottages will be getting the same attention over the next few years.

Winter Reminder
The Wakomata Shores Resort dinning lounge will not be opening this winter and at this point in time there are no plans for it to be reopened in the future. We understand that some guest, particularly snowmobiler's, where fond of the restaurant and with that in mind we can arrange to have food available in your cottage. If you are interested in further details of the stocked cottage please contact us here at the resort.

Please note as well that we no longer have gas available following the removal of the pumps prior to our purchase of the resort. Again the Tunnel Lake Trading Post is conveniently located on HWY 129 or off the snowmobile trial on your way into Wakomata Shores Resort.

Fishing Licenses
Due to changes in ownership and with the upcoming changes to licensee applications we no longer issue fishing licenses at Wakomata Shores Resort. We are sorry for any inconvenience that this may have on our guests and suggest making a stop before your arrival at the resort. The Tunnel Lake Trading Post which most pass on their way to Wakomata has all of your fishing needs from minnows to downriggers as well as fishing licenses.

New Ownership
Most of you have heard Wakomata Shores was sold May 1, 2007. Some of you have become quite good friends with Don and Sylvia and you may still see them around the lake or even back at the resort from time to time. They have both been extremely helpful with the transition and we are very thankful for all their pearls of wisdom they've passed along. We wish Don and Sylvia the best in their future endeavors.

The new owners are father and son, Warren and Mike Townsend. There will be a few changes to the camp but essentially we will continue to run it as it has been in the past. One change is the restaurant/lounge will not be open this summer - we are still wondering what we are going to do with that facility.

Recycling
We have put blue or green boxes at each cabin. Please help us recycle by putting all glass, plastic, cardboard and metal cans in these bins. We will remove and sort the bins prior to taking them to the local landfill site.

Lounge
During the summer on rainy days we will open the lounge for movies, music, our library and ping pong . There is no charge for the use of the lounge - see Mike or Warren for a key.

Hikers
There are numerous trails and logging roads all around the resort suitable to a quick 10 minute stroll or an all day jaunt. Please be advised that bears are in the area and for piece of mind we do have bear spray at the office. It is no guarantee of complete protection against bears but it probably helps. We will loan it free of charge as long as it is returned unused. If you are hiking locally one of our dogs would be more than glad to go with you.

Our Location
Our cottage rental facilities are located in the rugged beauty of the Laurentian Highlands, north of Thessalon just off of highway 129 which leads to Chapleau Ontario. Remote, but road-accessible, this unspoiled wilderness invites you to relax and unwind. Wakomata Lake is home to a variety of fish species including Lake Trout, Small Mouth Bass, Northern Pike, Walleye and White Fish. For those anglers interested in Speckled Trout or Rainbows there are a number of rivers, creeks and back country lakes to explore.

Wakomata, originally named Wakomatogaming meaning "Big Clear," is a 6,100 square acre lake, with a mean depth of 102 feet. The lake features over 30 miles of shoreline with exceptionally clear water, long sand beaches, islands and coves.

You will enjoy the fresh air and invigorating surroundings at Wakomata. Contact us and we'll help you plan your vacation. We look forward to offering you friendly service and creating an enjoyable holiday for YOU - our guests.
